Center for Health and Gender Equity
A US-based NGO focused on the effects of US international policies on the health and rights of women, girls, and other vulnerable populations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Coalition for Positive Sexuality
A grassroots, not-for-profit, activist organization. CPS is funded through donations and grants.
Gender at Work
Promotes women's empowerment and gender equality through institutional change, by analyzing an organization’s culture, policies and leadership, and by encouraging practical changes that have a direct, positive impact both on the organization and the communities it serves.
Global Fund for Women
An international network of women and men committed to a world of equality and social justice. We advocate for and defend women's human rights by making grants to support women's groups around the world.
Institute for Women's Leadership
A consortium of six women's programs at Rutgers University created to study and promote how and why women lead, and to develop programs that prepare women of all ages to lead effectively. The member units of IWL are:
International Center for Research on Women
Founded in 1976, ICRW works with partner organizations and governments throughout the world to promote gender equitable development, reduce poverty, and change the lives of millions of women and girls and their communities.
International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS
ICW is honoured and proud to be the only international network which strives to share with the global community the experiences, views and contributions of 19 million incredible women worldwide, who are also HIV positive.
International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission
A US-based non-profit NGO which aims to secure the full enjoyment of the human rights of all people and communities subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of sexual orientation or expression, gender identity or expression, and/or HIV status.
International Women's Health Coalition
A US-based NGO working with individuals and groups in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to promote women's reproductive and sexual health and rights.
International Women's Rights Project
Founded in 1998 to strengthen the capacity of women's NGOs, in Canada and internationally, and to influence the implementation of international human rights standards, for the benefit of women, through collaborative and participatory research and evidence-based advocacy.
MADRE
A human rights organization working with women who are affected by violations to help them win justice and, ultimately, change the conditions that give rise to human rights abuses.
Network of Sex Work Projects
An informal alliance of sex workers and organizations that provide services to sex workers, formed in 1991. NSWP is a legally constituted international organisation with member organizations in over 40 countries, and aims to promote sex workers' health and human rights.
The Pleasure Project
Promotes safer sex by avoiding negativity and focusing on the prime motivators for actually having sex: desire and pleasure.
Sexual Violence Research Initiative
Aims to increase awareness of sexual violence as a priority public health problem through evidence based communication and information, strengthen the support and funding base for research on sexual violence, build capacity in sexual violence research, and improve knowledge of sexual violence internationally to influence policy and service delivery.
Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality
Founded in 1957, this is the oldest professional society dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about sexuality, and now has over 1,000 members, including anthropologists, biologists, educators, historians, nurses, physicians, psychologists, sociologists, theologians and therapists.
United Nations: Development Fund for Women
Provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women's empowerment and gender equality.
United Nations: Division for the Advancement of Women
Advocates the improvement of the status of women of the world, and the achievement of their equality with men – as equal actors, partners, and beneficiaries of sustainable development, human rights, peace and security.
United Nations: International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women
The only UN entity mandated at the international level to promote and undertake research and training programmes to contribute to the advancement of women and gender equality worldwide.
Womankind Worldwide
A UK-based charity dedicated to women's development and women's human rights globally. Womankind work with local groups to find their own solutions, assisting them in their efforts to find a path that leads away from discrimination to equality. They currently work with over sixty partners in fifteen countries.
Women for Women International
Supporting women in war-torn regions with financial and emotional aid, job-skills training, rights education and small business assistance so they can rebuild their lives.
Women's Learning Partnership
Dedicated to women's leadership and empowerment, WLP is a builder of networks, working with 18 autonomous and independent partner organizations in the Global South, particularly in Muslim-majority societies, to empower women to transform their families, communities, and societies.
WomenWatch (United Nations Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality)
The central gateway to information and resources on the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women throughout the United Nations system, including the United Nations Secretariat, regional commissions, funds, programmes, specialized agencies and academic and research institutions.
Women Won't Wait
An international coalition of organisations and networks committed to promoting women's health and human rights, to comprehensively address HIV and end all forms of violence against women and girls.
World Bank: Gender and Development
The World Bank adopted a gender and development mainstreaming strategy in 2001 and issued a revised Operational Policy and Bank Procedures statement in 2003. Implementation of the strategy has been documented continuously since its inception. This page has links to these and related documents.
World Health Organization: Department of Gender, Women and Health
Brings attention to the ways in which biological and social differences between women and men affect health and the steps needed to achieve health equity.

Africa - African Gender Institute
Aims to build intellectual capacity and establish an African resource dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of intellectuals, researchers, policy-makers and practitioners committed to the attainment of gender equity.
Africa - Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre
Established in 2003, the ARSRC is part of a Ford Foundation five-year grant-making initiative, "Global Dialogue of Sexual Health and Well Being" aimed at giving visibility, depth and legitimacy to the field of sexuality.
Asia Pacific - Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development
An independent, non-government, non-profit organization, committed to enabling women to use law as an instrument of social change for equality, justice and development. It has a consultative status at the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
Canada - Sexuality And U
Committed to providing credible and up-to-date information and education on sexual health. This website is made possible with the guidance and collaboration of a team of distinguished Canadian medical organizations, and is administered by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.
Hong Kong - The Women's Foundation
Founded in 2002, this Foundation provides a a voice for women and girls in Hong Kong.
India - Centre for Women's Development Studies
An autonomous research institute supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), the CWDS sees itself primarily as a catalyst in assisting women to realise their full potential and exercise their active influence on society and its transformation.
Latin American and Caribbean Women's Health Network
To promote women's health and the full exercise of women's human rights and citizenship through the cultural, political and social transformation of our region and the world from a feminist perspective.
Russia - Moscow Center for Gender Studies
An independent non-profit research institution established in 1990, which conducts research into gender theory in the field of social sciences, and regulary prepares reports and expert materials on the status of women and social policies in the Russian Federation.
Scandinavia - Nordic Institute for Women's Studies and Gender Research
Established by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 1995 and currently located at the University of Oslo, NIKK is a trans-national resource and information centre on gender research and gender equality policies in the Nordic countries.
Tanzania - Tanzania Gender Networking Programme
An NGO that focuses on the practical promotion and application of gender equality and equity objectives, through policy advocacy and mainstreaming of gender perspectives.
Uganda - Women of Uganda Network
An NGO initiated in May 2000 by several women's organisations in Uganda to develop the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively.
USA - American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists
A not-for-profit, interdisciplinary professional organization, interested in promoting understanding of human sexuality and healthy sexual behavior.
USA - Gender Education and Advocacy
A national organization focused on the needs, issues and concerns of gender variant people in human society, seeking to educate and advocate for all human beings who suffer from gender-based oppression in all of its many forms.
USA - National Sexuality Resource Center
Gathers and disseminates the latest accurate information and research on sexual health, education, and rights. Through active outreach projects, both online and face-to-face, the NSRC aims to promote social justice and improve the quality of life in the United States.
USA - National Women's Studies Association
Committed to supporting and promoting feminist teaching, research, and professional and community service at the pre-K through post-secondary levels. Integral to this commitment is understanding the political ramifications in our teaching, research and service.
USA - Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States
SIECUS has served as the national voice for sexuality education, sexual health, and sexual rights for over 40 years. It affirms that sexuality is a fundamental part of being human, one that is worthy of dignity and respect. We advocate for the right of all people to accurate information, comprehensive education about sexuality, and sexual health services.
